Following successful master-planning and numerous facility upgrades at St Andrew College, Marayong, MCA were engaged to masterplan St Andrews Primary to enable the school to transition to a 4-stream structure. MCA developed a multi-staged plan to add three new buildings to the site and renovate numerous others over a 10-year period. MCA also completed two of the buildings of this masterplan.
LA1 – General Learning Area Complex
A 1400m2, 2-storey building design for collaborative teaching, LA1 building is characterised by much natural light, fresh airflow, and robust professional massing and materiality with exciting, colourful motifs inside and out to create a fun atmosphere for junior students. This playfulness extended out to sizeable external, shaded play areas that connected LA1 to a new school entry.
The complex was design with an emphasis on paired teaching areas with a common withdrawal area, complete with arts/crafts facilities on each floor.
Multipurpose Auditorium
An 800-seat auditorium for large school events, this auditorium formed a bridge between the primary school and the secondary college. Sited to face a new basketball court, the auditorium was well placed for year group marshalling, and especially large events that could capitalise on the large internal and external spaces. With sprung timber flooring for HSC dance performances, the auditorium provided extended covered breakout space for overflow and external address.
